  • How does the Smart Splitter work?
  • The NeoCharge Smart Splitter has built in current sensors that are constantly reading the current draw from each output receptacle. If the combine amperage draw is more than what the circuit can safely provide, the Smart Splitter will automatically shut of the Secondary side of the device. Read on for more information

  • My 240V outlet isn't near the location I charge my car
  • If your 240V outlet isn't close to the location you charge your car from, you have a few options:

    1.) Use an extension cord
    2.) Use a wall passthrough kit to run the cord through a wall and into the garage/outside where the car is
    3.) Have an electrician install a conduit from the outlet to your charging location For more detailed information, please read the this article.

  • What's the difference between the different "Levels" of charging?
  • Level 1 charging is what you would get if you plugged your car into the standard 120V wall outlet around your home. This might take days to charge your vehicle

    Level 2 uses 240V to charge your car. This can be done by tapping into your home's existing 240V outlets and can charge a car fully overnight.

    Level 3 charging is commonly referred to as "supercharging" and is the fastest available technology for EV charging. Level 3 charging is what you would find in public spaces and are operated by private charging companies (ChargePoint, Tesla, etc).

  • Why is a basic Y splitter unsafe?
  • When it comes to a basic Y splitter cable, the biggest challenge is safety! Since both outputs of the cable are considered active at all times, there is a likely chance you will overload the circuit if both devices plugged in are running simultaneously. Overloading the circuit can cause the wiring in your home to overheat which is a significant fire hazard.

    NeoCharge's founders discovered this to be a major problem for homeowners, and wanted to provide an alternate solution for EV drivers to still utilize their existing 240v sockets in their home. Hence, the creation of the NeoCharge 240v Smart Splitter - the only 240V splitter to that is UL certified. The Smart Splitter has the ability to completely shut off the secondary side of the device when it senses too much current is being drawn at once.

  • There are a few factors that play a part in the Smart Splitter’s price point, but they all contribute to our safety and satisfaction priorities.
    First and foremost, we hold a high standard for the materials used to design and build the Smart Splitter. The entire device is enclosed in a high-quality heat-resistant Bayblend FR3010 plastic exterior, with UL-rated NEMA receptacles, and high-grade circuitry made to withstand an immense amount of stress and electrical current.

    Next, safety is the number one priority for us here at NeoCharge, prompting us to go through 18 months of testing by trusted experts from Underwriters Laboratory (UL). Because of this, our Smart Splitter is the only 240v circuit splitter awarded with the highest safety certification possible in the industry. UL has been around for over a century and wrote the vast majority of the current industry safety standards, and having their stamp of approval aligns us with industry-wide best safety practices.

    Lastly, each Smart Splitter is individually assembled with care on the Central Coast of California, ensuring every device is built just right for every customer.

    Ultimately, the cost to install a home charging station varies on a number of determining factors:

    • Age of the home
    • Electric panel capacity
    • Type of installation; and
    • Distance of the panel to the car charger

    For many, upgrading the entire service panel is required in order to install an additional dedicated 240v outlet for EV charging. For example, adding a 50 Amp outlet on your 100 Amp panel would take up half the total capacity.
